Literacy
At Preston North East Primary School, we work hard to make reading and writing, speaking and listening exciting, meaningful and rewarding for all our students. We aim to develop a love of reading and writing in our students.

Through careful planning and well delivered lessons, students develop a knowledge of the sounds and letter combinations in the junior years using the Sounds Write program. Students learn to read with meaning, and analyse and critique texts. This is supported by great reading resources including a school library and class libraries.
We explicitly teach handwriting, key-boarding and spelling. During their time at our school, students learn to write interesting texts, creatively and expertly.
Importantly, our students speak about their learning, justify their thinking and explain their knowledge of the world.
Apart from our great classroom programs, we provide English as an Additional Language, Literacy Support and Speech Therapy for students. We offer extension programs for students who are gifted writers.
