At Preston North East Primary School, our goal is to ensure that all children become confident, proficient, enthusiastic and successful learners of mathematics.
Our students develop a high-level of mathematical understanding, skill and language as they show appreciation and demonstrate mastery across the curriculum.
We aim to create rich learning experiences that are highly engaging and challenging for all our students. This is so that students can make the connections between the concepts of mathematics and the world outside the classroom.
Our teaching programs are based on the Victorian Curriculum (version 2) strands of Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability and promote students to develop the proficiencies of Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning.
Our teachers are highly qualified and engage in regular professional learning. We assess individual learning needs through thoughtful assessment, and our programs are differentiated to include extension and support strategies.
Our annual ‘Maths Night’ is hugely popular with students and their families, and the ‘Maths Quiz’ allow our passionate student mathematicians to shine. Many of our students are achieving at high levels in mathematics, and extension opportunities include the Australian Mathematics Competition, the AMT Mathematics Challenge and the Victorian High Ability Program (Years 5-6).
To support our families at home, our school provides free access to the Mathletics program for student use.
