Grade 1/2 Area

The Grade 1/2 Area in 2009 comprises 4 classes: Alison Tuddenham (1/2A, Room 1), Maureen Innes-Will (1/2M, Room 2), Trudi Waterfall (1/2T, Room 3) and Lauren Opray (1/2L, Room 4). All classrooms are in the South Block of the school and the Team Leader is Maureen Innes-Will.

This term’s Inquiry Unit is ‘Shop Till You Drop’. This covers the use of money, the difference between goods and services provided in the community, how these goods are produced and jobs in the community. The children will be learning about Australian coins and notes, how they are produced and what is portrayed on them. This unit integrates very well with our Reading, Writing and, particularly with our Maths program. Each grade will have a classroom shop, where the children will become competent in adding and subtracting amounts of money and working out what change is needed. The Visual and Performing Arts programs will also be supporting this unit.

This term, we have begun a ‘Buddies’ program with Gr3/4 classes. It is proving very successful. The children enjoy working with their new friends.

In the last two weeks of term, we will be focussing on celebrations. Each grade teacher has planned a variety of fun activities for the children, including making gifts and decorations.
