Visual Arts

This year, the children in the lower school have taken part in art sessions involving drawing, printing, painting, paper collage, felt collage and mosaic work.  They have painted aboriginal pictures and have produced their own underwater murals which were framed for taking home.   The Prep children have also been busy learning songs for the Prep Prom at the end of term and are getting really excited about this.  Children in grades 1-3 have taken on the task of creating a sculpture made from “clean rubbish”.  These are coming along really well and are quickly filling up the art room.  Thank you to all parents who sent along clean rubbish with their children.

Children in Grades 3 and 4 have taken part in art sessions involving painting and paper collage, in order to design and produce an Australian garden viewed from a window.  They have also been looking at shapes in the environment and are designing and creating individual shape pictures. These look fantastic and children have really shown me their creative flair during this activity.

Grades 4, 5 and 6 children have taken part in sessions involving design, drawing, clay, carving, printing, painting and paper collage.  They had a great time learning about animal skeletons and making odd-shaped plaster sculptures. They have created a class set of printing blocks which have been used by children throughout the whole school. They have also been learning about “exquisite corpse” paintings where they teamed up with a friend to create a picture in two halves.  Some of  these look really freaky and are on display in the office area.  At the moment they are working on a self-portrait.  Some children are finding this a real challenge whilst others seem to have an amazing talent for drawing.
