Thinking Curriculum
Teaching And Learning
The Teaching & Learning Committee was established in 2002 and in 2004 the major focus of this committee was to continue the introduction of teaching and learning practices which cater for the wide range of learning styles and to formalise their usage in a school policy and continuum of skill development. In 2005, the committee began the journey of implementing VELS. This began in earnest in 2006 and this knowledge will be built on in 2007. In 2005 most teaching staff attended a one day Lane Clark seminar. This was followed up with all teaching staff participating in a three day seminar in 2006. In 2007, staff had the opportunity to workshop with Lane Clark in their planning teams at the PNE annual staff conference in March.
Teaching and Learning is a Strategic Plan Priority and will continue to have impact on the planning and implementation of all school programs. It is the school’s intention that we continue to develop understandings of how best to cater for the broad range of learning (and teaching) styles and co-ordinate more effectively traditional practice with current theories.
A major focus in 2006-2007 was intensive staff professional development in Boys Education made possible via the Federal Government’s “Success For Boys” funding.
Staff has participated in quality Professional Development that allows for different teaching and learning styles. Some of these include-
- Gardner's Multiple Intelligences
- Bloom’s Thinking Skills
- DeBono’s Thinking Hats
- Differentiating the Curriculum
- Enhancing and Enriching the Curriculum
- The Thinking Curriculum
- The Thinker’s Keys
- Lane Clark – Ideasys
- Boys Education
Staff incorporates these practices and theories into their planning and into different activities and tasks within their classrooms. We will continue to share and trial ways of using these practices and others into all parts of the curriculum.
